Elderly woman's maggot-infested leg left untreated, hospital discharges her prematurely

kerala

MALAPPURAM: It has been alleged that a 68-year-old woman who was brought to the hospital with a maggot-infested leg was sent back home before she recovered. Karulai native Premaleela was allegedly discharged from Nilambur District Hospital before she recovered from a severe maggot infestation in her leg. The elderly woman's condition worsened after her initial discharge, prompting locals to intervene and readmit her to the hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, hospital authorities are claiming that Premaleela was discharged from the hospital at her own request. The elderly woman, who has elephantiasis, was sent home with multiple wounds on her leg still infested with maggots. The hospital's decision to discharge the woman in such a vulnerable condition has raised questions about their standards of patient care.
