Vengoor native dies of hepatitis A in Kerala; 227 patients undergoing treatment

KOCHI: The concerning Hepatitis A claimed another life in Kerala on Monday. Karthyayaini from Vengoor is deceased. She was 51.

Karthiyani was first admitted to Perumbavoor Hospital and later to Kottayam Medical College after being diagnosed with Hepatitis A. She died while undergoing treatment at 10 pm on Sunday. In Vengoor alone, three people have so far died due to the same disease. A total of 227 people are under treatment for Hepatitis A in the state.

One person also died of West Nile fever in the state. Vijayakumar (24), a resident of Maniyarankudy, Idukki is the deceased. He was undergoing treatment at Idukki Medical College. Meanwhile, the Virology Institute of Alappuzha revealed that the 67-year-old man who died in Mundur was not infected with West Nile fever. Earlier, an examination conducted at Perinthalmanna Private Hospital concluded the death was a result of the dangerous West Nile fever.

Minding the concern, Collector NSK Umesh, also the District Magistrate, ordered an inquiry into the spread of Hepatitis A in Vengoor. Muvattupuzha RDO and Sub Divisional Magistrate Shaiju P. Jacob will head the investigation.
