NEW DELHI: The owner of the hospital has been arrested in connection with the fire that broke out in the hospital in which seven newborns were burnt to death. Doctor Naveen Kichi was arrested. A massive fire broke out at a hospital in East Delhi's Vivek Vihar area last night. Naveen went on the run after the incident. He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. Delhi Police has arrested Dr. Akash (25), who was on duty on the day of the incident.

A fire broke out at New Born Baby Care Hospital and its adjoining building around 11:30 pm on Saturday. It is reported that the fire was completely extinguished today morning. Seven babies died and five were seriously injured in the incident. It is concluded that the cause of the accident was the explosion of an oxygen cylinder kept in the hospital's two-storey building.

The fire occurred when there were 12 babies inside the building. When the hospital was completely engulfed in fire, the locals rushed to the hospital and took the babies out through the back door. Later, the fire brigade also arrived and carried out rescue operations. It is reported that seven babies died on the spot.

The hospital is located in a confined space between two large buildings. This affected the rescue operation. NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo said that a team from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights will visit the hospital to investigate the incident.
