Nita Ambani buys 60 sarees at Rs 6 lakh each for Anant-Radhika wedding

VARANASI: The Ambanis are engrossed in the wedding preparations of their youngest son Anand Ambani with Radhika Merchant. The wedding is on July 12 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Nita Ambani recently offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The first invitation was offered to Lord Shiva at the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Nita Ambani had reached Varanasi to buy Banarasi sarees for the marriage. The pictures of Nita buying sarees have gone viral on social media. Reports said that she met loom owners and weavers and ordered bulk sarees upto 60 sarees.

She bought Lakkha Buti and Hazara Buti banarasi sarees. It will take days to weave these sarees and several people to make it. They require excellent craftsmanship. All these sarees are made of real zari having silver and gold threads. 50-60 % of the zari will be of silver while around 1.5% of it will be made of gold. The sarees with gold and silver threads will be ranging from Rs 150,000 to 200,000 to Rs 500,000-600,000.

The weavers said the sarees they make are called Lakkha Buti. The speciality of this sari is that there is a corner near the Aanchal in the saree. When the loom is set up once, the entire saree is prepared but to make this special sari, the loom is prepared thrice. Chunari and Piyari are used in auspicious events of the Hindu religion. It takes 60 to 62 days to make this sari, the weaver said.

‘A lot of time is taken to make these sarees. Nita Ambani has bought a special sari called Hazara Buti. It has about 35,000 silver threads and takes 40-45 days to make a Hazara Buti sari. Nearly 25 skilled artisans are engaged in making the sari.

National and world leaders from all corners will be attending Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding in Mumbai. So, the weavers are hoping that this exposure is expected to give a boost to the Banaras sari industry.
