THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Very heavy rains are likely to lash the state today. Orange alert has been sounded in Palakkad and Malappuram and yellow alert in Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Pathanamthitta and Idukki in the next three hours. The IMD has banned fishing on the southern Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts till Thursday. There is no restriction on fishing on the coast of Karnataka.
The rain will continue in the coming days. Orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta and Idukki tomorrow and yellow alert in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad. Orange alert has been sounded in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram day after tomorrow. On the same day, yellow alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
Yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam on Wednesday. People living in danger zones should be cautious as there is a possibility of severe storm surge along various coasts. Should relocate if required. The authorities also warned to keep safely the fishing equipment.
