Term-end of Arif Mohammad Khan; Devendra Kumar Joshi likely to be made new Kerala Governor

NEW DELHI: Andaman and Nicobar Lieutenant Governor and former Navy Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi is likely to be the new Governor of Kerala. Arif Mohammad Khan, who completed his term on September 6 this year, is likely to be given another position.

Joshi, who resigned as Admiral of the Navy in February 2014 following the INS Sindhuratna submarine fire, became the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar in October 2017. Devendra Kumar Joshi is the first person to resign as Admiral of Navy.

New governors may be appointed in some other states as well. Senior BJP leader and Malayalee Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai may be transferred from Goa. Sreedharan Pillai became the Governor of Goa on July 15, 2021, while he was the Governor of Mizoram since 2019. He may be given another state as he is giving good performance.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who became the Lieutenant Governor four years ago, is also likely to be replaced. Instead, former RSS-affiliated BJP national general secretaries Ram Madhav and Devendra Joshi are being considered as governors.

Senior BJP leaders like Ashwani Choubey, VK Singh and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi are also being considered for the post of governor and lieutenant governor.

The appointments are likely to take place after the Maharashtra-Jharkhand assembly elections.
