Another elephant attack during temple festival; Vallamkulam Narayanankutty attacks and kills mahout Kunjumon

PALAKKAD: Elephant attacked a mahout during the Kootanadu nercha and killed him. The deceased is a man named Kunjumon. The incident took place on Thanneercode Road around 11 pm last night. Another person was also injured. The elephant named Vallamkulam Narayanankutty attacked him while he was returning from the Gaja Sangamam, which was part of the prayer. After attacking the mahout, the elephant destroyed the vehicles also. The mahout, who was seriously injured in the attack, was taken to the hospital, but could not be saved. The elephant was subdued after much effort.

An elephant brought to the temple festival had attacked and killed one person in Thrissur. The incident happened on Tuesday. The elephant named Chirakkal Ganesan, brought to the festival at Brahmakulam Sree Painkanikkal temple at Elavalli in Thrissur, had gone berserk. When the mahout was bathing the elephant, it stabbed him with its tusk and then ran for about 1.5 km. It also stabbed another person standing there. From here, the elephant ran again for about 4.5 km. Though the mahouts went behind the elephant, they were not able to bring it under their control. The mahouts were not able to pacify and calm it down. The elephant ran for more than 14 kms.
