Maniyanpillai Raju is a beloved actor of Malayalam. Active in films for 49 years, he has donned the role of a producer along with acting. Now, he talks about his entry into the production industry. He said that he entered the production industry with the film ‘Hello My Dear Wrong Number’. He talked about this while talking in a channel show.
His words
'Once, Priyadarshan and me were sitting together. At that time, Priyan said, let's do a film, I have the subject of an English film. Each can donate Rs 25,000. No one accepted any money. So, Hello My Dear Wrong Number is a film made for Rs 2.15 lakh.
That film was distributed by Gandhimathi Balan. We didn't get much money from the theatres. Five years later, when these channel owners took over, we all got Rs 50,000 each. It was a profit and it was not a hit commercially because we didn’t have much theatres then. The amount for balcony was Rs 2.
I spent Rs 18 lakh for Vellanakalude Nadu and Rs 24 lakh for Aye Auto. Now, if you want to make a film with a small artist, your need Rs 7 crore. The expense for a day alone is about Rs 6 lakh,' said Maniyanpillai Raju.
