Metropolitan Dr Gabriel Mar Gregorios of Thiruvananthapuram Diocese resigns

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: H.G. Dr Gabriel Mar Gregorios, the Metropolitan Bishop of Thiruvananthapuram Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church, resigned from his position on Wednesday.

He resigned from the positions of Bishop of Thiruvananthapuram Diocese, Manager of the Catholicate and MD School, and Chairman of the Church Mission Board and Mission Society.

The Metropolitan submitted his resignation to the Catholicos of the Church, Baselios Marthoma Mathews III. It is reported that he resigned due to disputes in the church's managing committee. However, the Metropolitan denied this and cited his age and illness to be the factors that forced him to the decision.

77-year-old Gabriel Mar Gregorios Metropolitan took charge as the head of the Thiruvananthapuram Diocese on March 5, 2005.
