KOZHIKODE: Congress faced yet another setback ahead of the local body polls in Kozhikode. Tensions brewed after the name of director VM Vinu, the Congress mayoral candidate, was found missing in the voters' list. Vinu, who was announced as a candidate from Kallayi, was busy continuing with his campaigning when the news surfaced. The Congress alleged a conspiracy over the incident of recurring irregularities in the voters' list.
Vinu had voted in the last assembly by-election and local body elections. Vinu had voted from the Malaparamba division. He had not moved to any other place or lived elsewhere. Therefore, the Congress leadership clarified that it was assumed that his name would be on the voter list there. The Congress leadership says that Vinu's name was not even found when the list of those excluded was checked.
Congress, after alleging irregularities in the voter list, is planning to take further action in the incident. The Congress doubts the role of CPM behind the irregularities in the voter list. The Congress also expressed surprise over the sudden disappearance of the name of a person, who has been voting for 45 years, from the list.
