ALUVA: Policeman who was critically injured on the head by a drug dealer for stopping him for not wearing a mask is yet to regain his memory. Ajeesh Paul, a civil police officer at Marayoor station, is undergoing treatment at Rajagiri Hospital in Chunangamveli.
Ajeesh, who was shifted from the ICU to a room on Monday, was taken for walk inside the hospital room by the doctor yesterday. He didn't regain memory at that time. Ajeesh was contacted by his brother on Tuesday in a video call with Marayoor SI PM Aby and other officials who were outside the hospital. Thousands watched the video posted on social media by colleagues and wished Ajeesh a long healthy life. Ajeesh, whose hair is trimmed short, came smiling in the video with a bandage on his head. The only answer to the questions was smile. Doctors say the condition will improve with treatment in the coming days.
Elderly parents Paul and Achamma are waiting at their house in Valanamkuzhi, Thodupuzha with prayers to get Ajeesh back to his old health. Ajeesh is accompanied in the hospital by his elder brother Sajeev, a teacher in Delhi. The family is relieved to know that Ajeesh walked in the room last night. The parents said that they are grateful that Kerala Kaumudi had given the news on the front page of the daily and that is why the government was ready to bear the medical expenses of Ajeesh.
The incident took place on June 1 at 10.10 am in Kovilkadavu town of Kanthalloor panchayath. Sulaiman (26), a drug peddler, was provoked when he was questioned by the Marayoor CI for not wearing a mask in the cantainment zone. He threw a large stone at Ajeesh. Ajeesh got hit in the head and collapsed. CI Ratheesh was also pelted with stones while trying to apprehend the accused. The arrested accused is in remand.
