Possibility of surge in number of patients; avoid crowds, central team expresses satisfaction on state’s restrictions, says health minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George said that she has informed the central team that they need more vaccines in the state. While talking to the media, she said the central team has expressed satisfaction on the restrictions in the state.

The state has demanded Centre to provide an additional 90 lakh doses of vaccine in July. The minister said that this was not in proportion to the population. The number of Covid patients in Kerala in the first and second wave compared to the population is less than in other states. Therefore, the number of people at risk of getting the disease is also high. It was in this context the state asked for more vaccines. The central team had responded favourably to this, she said.

The minister said the central team was satisfied with all the steps taken by the state on Covid regulations and informed no concern on the TPR rate. There were no specific instructions. The central team visited hospitals in Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram, she said.

Extreme caution is need. Getting vaccinated does not make you safe. Avoid crowds. The second wave is not over. Extreme personal care should continue, she added.
