Woman set on fire by brother-in-law, accused attempts suicide

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman suffered severe burns after her brother-in-law set her on fire. The incident happened at Kavuvila in Pothencode at 11 am Wednesday morning. The victim identified as Vrinda aged 30 has sustained serious burns below her waist. She has been admitted at the medical college hospital. The youth after committing the act tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. The accused identified as Subin Lal is also admitted in the medical college hospital.

Police said family problems are the cause of the attack. Vrinda and her husband has been estranged for some time. Vrinda was going to study sewing at an institution near her home. He reached there and attacked her. Though she tried to escape from his hands, he chased and doused petrol on her body and then set her on fire. The attack happened in front of children and women of the next house. Subin Lal, who escaped in a car, was later nabbed by the police at Muttathara. He consumed poison then. Police said the condition of Vrinda condition is very critical.
