THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A young woman was brutally abused by her husband in retaliation for seeking a divorce. Jessy, a native of Pulluvila, was brutally beaten by her husband Varghese. Jesse, the victim of the attack, was rescued by a young man from the neighbourhood. She is undergoing treatment at the medical college with serious injuries.

Jessy, who was in the kitchen after taking her son for tuition on Friday night, was grabbed by Varghese and beaten. Jessy lost consciousness after losing blood. Varghese, who had retreated at first, came back and began to beat Jesse. Jessy was rescued by a neighbour who rushed to the scene.

Jessy and Varghese got married 13 years ago. Varghese, a regular alcoholic, used to beat Jessy. Jesse then filed for divorce six months ago. The assault was in retaliation for this. The relatives said that she had lodged a complaint with the police against him earlier but it was all settled. Jessy, who is being treated at the hospital, is now conscious. Varghese has been arrested on the complaint of her relatives.
