Four of family attempt suicide by consuming acid in Kottayam, two die

KOTTAYAM: Two of a four-member family, who attempted suicide by consuming acid, died here Tuesday morning. The dead have been identified as Seena (54), wife of Sukumaran of Brahmamangalam in Kottayam and her eldest daughter Surya (27). Sukumaran and his youngest daughter Suvarna are undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital and their condition is critical. They attempted suicide last night at around 10.55 pm.

Sukumaran’s eldest daughter Surya’s marriage was recently called off. Police said they may have taken the extreme step due to that. Their neighbours were the first to know about the incident. The two daughters were recently under treatment for depression.
