Four years since Madhu was lynched; family worries whether witnesses will turn hostile

PALAKKAD: It has been four years since Madhu was beaten to death in Attapady. The trial in the case has not yet started. In the last four years, we have faced threats from various corners. Many tried to isolate us, said Madhu’s sister Sarasu.

We are worried whether some of the witnesses might turn hostile, she said. The prosecutor has said that we have enough evidence to win the case even if some witnesses retract.

It was on February 22, 2018 Madhu (30), son of late Mallan in Mukkali Chindakky, a tribal village in Attapady, was caught and beaten to death by some locals alleging theft.

He was brutally beaten to death by a mob for stealing food items from shops in the Mukkali area. Huge protests had erupted as the visuals of attacking Madhu, who had been suffering from mental illness, got circulated on the social media.
