THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Kerala cabinet approving the hike in bus, auto and taxi fares in the state, the new fares will come into effect from May 1. The minimum fare for buses up to fast passengers was hiked in addition to the 25 percent hike announced during the Covid period. However, there is no hike in the minimum fares for Express, Super Express, Super Air Express, Super Deluxe / Semi Sleeper, Luxury / Hi-Tech and AC, Single Axle, Multi-axle and Low Floor AC buses.
The cabinet did not take any decision on the demand to raise the student fares. A commission will be appointed to study the matter. The cabinet also said the KSRTC would be authorised to issue season tickets, for a period of one month or more, with discounts of up to 30 percent of the general fare.
Earlier, the Left Front had given nod for the hike in fares.
