THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former senior superintendent Sreekandan Nair was arrested in connection with a mainour theft case at the RDO court. He was arrested on Monday morning at his house in Peroorkada. The accused told the police that he had stolen the mainour due to financial difficulties.

More than 100 sovereigns of gold and silver were stolen from the mainour kept at the RDO court. Following which, the sub-collector lodged a complaint with the Peroorkada police on May 31.

The revenue department had earlier recommended to transfer the theft case to the vigilance. However, the police have now arrested the accused amid criticisms against the delay in issuing an order in the regard.

During the early phases of the investigation itself, the police came to realize that the officers in charge of the RDO court locker was behind the theft. Sreekandan Nair had served as the senior superintendent in charge of the mainour for more than a year. It was during his service period that the theft took place. The accused had retired from the post in February 2021.
