Gujarat hooch tragedy: 18 killed, many critical after drinking illicit liquor

GANDHINAGAR: At least 18 people have been killed and many are in critical condition after consuming illicit liquor in Gujarat. The patients are undergoing treatment at the hospitals in Botad, Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar.

The victims are natives of three villages in the area. Many of them had consumed the illicit liquor, locally brewed in Botad, last day. Soon after, many of them were reportedly left brain dead. There is a complete ban on liquor in Gujarat.

The government has appointed a special investigation team to probe into the incident. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) will conduct a parallel investigation as well. One person has been arrested and two others taken into custody in connection with the incident.
