Indian Lawn Bowls team creates history, beats South Africa to win gold at CWG 2022

BIRMINGHAM: The Indian Lawn Bowls team on Tuesday made history by winning its first-ever medal in the sport, winning Gold by defeating South Africa in the final of the women's fours event at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.


The match was end to end between India and South Africa, which is one of the best teams in the sport. India were represented by Rupa Rani Tirkey, Nayanmoni Saikia, Lovely Choubey and Pinki Singh in the match which they won the match by 17-10.


India started the match very well with a lead, but South Africa fought back to make things 2-2.


India dominated their opponents as after End 7, the score read 7-2 in their favour.


After end 8, South Africa got two points, but India got one more, thereby increasing their lead to 8-4.


South Africa fought back and made the scoreline 8-6 after End 9. After End 10, the scores were level at 8-8.


After End 11 as South Africa were in the lead by two points at 8-10.


India never looked back from there as they dominated their opponents and ended the match with Gold.
