Parents came to the fore against collector Renu Raj for the delay in announcing holiday for schools in Ernakulam amidst the heavy rains. The holiday was announced at 8.25 am after all the students left home for school. Many parents commented under the collector’s post like ‘was the collector sleeping, inefficient collector, etc.’

The collector announced a holiday only for the eastern region of the district after the rains decreased the previous day. Students and parents hoped that a holiday will be declared for schools as heavy rains lashed the district early morning today. As a holiday was not declared, parents send their children to school. Even though a holiday was announced later, the students did not get any benefit from it and this angered the parents. Some schools decided to ignore the Collector's announcement and hold classes. Meantime, the Collector informed that schools which have already started need not be closed. The parents who came to pick their children from school after the holiday was announced was in a dilemma again.
