CHENNAI: Chennai Police has set up a QR code system for traffic violators to pay fines. As e-payment is common nowadays, many people do not carry cash in hand. Chennai Police has come up with this new system to prevent non-payment of fines. City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal inaugurated the project by handing over the QR code cards to the traffic police.

Such cards have been handed over to all the police teams in charge of traffic control. In the first phase, 300 cards were distributed. Police were also trained to use it. By scanning the QR code on the card with your smartphone, you will be redirected to the e-Challan page in the Paytm app. The fined person can pay the fine through UPI apps or using debit and credit cards after entering the ID and vehicle number.

QR Code boards will also be installed at call centres to deal with traffic violations and remind violators to pay fines. For this, the call centre will also get the help of those on duty. Call centres will send regular SMS messages to the phones of those who owe fines for violations. If you open the link attached to the message, you can reach the page to pay fines.
