THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, will attend a meeting with high-ranking police officers of the state today at the police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. He will interact with district police heads, DIGs, IGs, ADGPs, and the DGP for one hour starting at 10 am.

The Chief Minister will tell the high-ranking police officers that the government will not tolerate corruption and lack of efficiency. He will inform them about the need of serving the people and to work above personal interests and political affiliations.

Pinarayi Vijayan will revive the work of the force in the last year and is expected to give guidelines about how to rectify the faults. Even if one person out of the 60,000 force errs, the image of the whole police department is tarnished. The police must behave politely with the people. Their behavior will be monitored by the special branch.

The Chief Minister will also ask the police officers not to bring disrepute to the force and to work diligently to provide justice and protection to everyone.

High Court’s order about doing follow-ups in cases filed by women and children must be implemented strictly. The police have no authority in settling cases. It is a common practice to protect the accused in the name of settling cases and not registering cases filed by women.

The DGP has also called for a meeting in the afternoon to review the guidelines given by the Chief Minister.
