NEW DELHI: The dream of a house will become a reality on Wednesday for more than 3000 families living in slums in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over the keys of 3,024 flats constructed in Kalkaji, Delhi for the economically weaker sections (EWS). The slum dwellers here are the vote bank of Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party. But with the inauguration of the housing project, BJP believes that the political situation here will change. Keeping this in mind, the Centre has decided to hand over the flats just before the Delhi municipal elections.

Reports suggest that Prime Minister Modi has sought updates on the construction of flats for the poor in every cabinet meeting over the past year. The flat construction work in Kathputli Colony is also being completed at a fast pace. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said that handing over flats just before the municipal elections would benefit the BJP. A senior political leader responded that when they go there to ask for votes, they will remember what the BJP stands for.
