clash

AGARTALA: The tense situation in Tripura, which witnessed a clash between Congress and BJP workers after announcement of elections, has eased. The police say that the situation is under control. On Wednesday, after the announcement of elections, workers from both parties clashed on the road and situation escalated towards a large-scale conflict. The activists set fire to several vehicles and turned violent. Many people including AICC member and Tripura in-charge Ajay Kumar were injured. Ajay Kumar has been admitted to the hospital.

The electoral alliance of the opposition parties is in the belief that they will be able to form the government this time. Their assessment is that the anti-incumbency sentiment is also in their favor. Political observers say that the CPM-Congress alliance to topple the BJP government will make it tough for BJP. But the BJP is hoping that the Modi influence and the achievements of the state government can be used in their favour to get another term. As per the BJP, replacing Biplab Deb with Manik Saha as the Chief Minister have enabled them to solve the anti-incumbency sentiment and the internal problems. Elections in Tripura will be held on February 16.
