MALAPPURAM: Police have arrested a Bihar native who extorted money through WhatsApp by claiming to be the district police chief. Sikandar Sada (31) was arrested for extorting money by creating a fake WhatsApp profile and sending messages in the name of the district police chief. Malappuram cyber crime wing arrested the accused from Siddapura in Udupi, Karnataka.
The accused established contact with police officials through the fake profile. However, the officials became suspicious after receiving messages from a non-official number. Following this, they started an investigation with the help of the cyber cell. It was the team led by Malappuram DySP Abdul Basheer that arrested the accused from Karnataka.
