TEHRAN: A temporary ceasefire has been announced in the West Asian conflict that has been ongoing for over a month. US President Donald Trump, who stepped back from the brink of a major escalation, declared the ceasefire, which Iran has also accepted. Iran has withdrawn its threats of attack. Both countries have agreed to a two-week ceasefire. According to reports, the ceasefire was announced after discussions mediated by Pakistan.
Both Trump and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have confirmed the ceasefire. Araghchi said in a statement that Iran agreed to the two-week ceasefire with conditions after the US stopped its attacks. He added that Iran will allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz for the next two weeks under the supervision of its military.
Trump wrote on Truth Social early this morning that the planned destructive military action against Iran has been temporarily halted after talks with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. He also said the US would agree to the two-week ceasefire if Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz. Trump added that significant progress has been made toward a long-term peace agreement with Iran and stability in the region.
