LONDON: A young Indian student has been found dead at his residence in London, sparking allegations of foul play from his family and prompting an investigation by the local police. The deceased has been identified as S. Srinath Reddy, a native of Talamadla village in the Kamareddy district of Telangana.
The incident occurred shortly after Srinath attended a friend's birthday party on the night of June 22. According to his family, they had spoken to him over the phone that evening. They noted that he sounded very happy and there was nothing unusual or suspicious about his behaviour. However, the next day, June 23, Srinath was discovered dead, leading his family to raise serious doubts surrounding the circumstances of his demise.
While Srinath's roommate claimed that the student died by suicide by hanging himself in the room, the official cause of death is yet to be confirmed. Suspicions have been further fueled by statements from a London-based relative of the deceased, who alleged that the roommate discovered the body on Tuesday morning but delayed informing Srinath's friends for a significant period.
Srinath had moved to London last year to pursue higher education. Coming from a modest farming background, his parents had financed his overseas studies by securing a substantial education loan. Shattered by the sudden loss, the family is currently in deep distress. To assist them with the expenses of repatriating his mortal remains to India, Srinath's friends have launched a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe.
The London Police have registered a case and initiated a formal investigation into the matter. Seeking justice, Srinath’s father, Madhusudan Reddy, has appealed to both the Central and State governments of India to intervene and coordinate with UK authorities to uncover the true cause of his son's death. Meanwhile, neither the London Metropolitan Police nor the Indian High Commission in London has issued an official response regarding the incident.
