'We advised them against doing it, Jishnu and wife went ahead with plans'

Jishnu Raghavan was diagnosed with cancer while he was at the peak of his career. Not much information emerged about his health until 2016, when Mollywood was left shattered with news of his death. Veteran actor Raghavan recently opened up about his son's illness and his last days.

Raghavan expressed his displeasure over an operation Jishnu underwent in Bengaluru and doubts it worsened Jishnu's condition. Although the disease was serious, the doctors said that it could be cured with chemo and radiation. The surgery was performed in the meantime, which made things worse.

Raghavan:

“I don't worry about anything because some events are inevitable in life. That's all. It was a shock when I came to know about Jishnu's illness. I expected that he would get better with time and treatment. However, he decided to undergo an operation at his own will after being convinced by the words of a few.

What was the point of having an operation and cutting out the whole throat? What was the point of living like that? Both my wife and I requested that he not undergo the operation. However, Jishnu and his wife had already decided, and it seemed they were not ready to relent in any case. They went for the operation, and the damage was done. It was their choice. We suffered.

The doctors here had said that there were chances that he could be cured with radiation and chemo. The doctors at Lakeshore also had the same opinion. But Jishnu and his wife took a different approach. Once we've lost everything, we can't rebuild it. In our house, we don’t even have one photo of my son. Both my wife and I seldom think back about Jishnu. We even moved all his belongings from the house. Even when you reminded me about him, I felt no emotion.”
