MUMBAI: Savitribai Shankar Dipke (80), grandmother of Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, passed away on Saturday. She was a native of Hingoli district of Maharashtra. Savitribai was undergoing treatment for the past few days due to a prolonged illness and age-related health issues. She was the mother of Abhijeet Dipke's father, Bhagwan Dipke.

Abhijeet departed from Mumbai for Delhi this morning to participate in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. However, shortly after his flight landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi police took Abhijeet and other CJP leaders—Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka—into custody.

Upon learning the news of his grandmother's death, Abhijeet's parents, Bhagwan Dipke and Anita, made preparations to leave for Hingoli. They reside at 'Shankar Sadan' in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Dipke’s uncle told the media that the last rites would take place tomorrow morning between 9:30 and 10:00. It is expected that Abhijeet will travel to his village to attend the final rites. Meanwhile, reports emerged that Delhi police allowed Abhijeet to travel to Mumbai and said it is up to the CJP founder to decide whether to take part in the final rites or remain in Delhi to join the youth for the protest.

Currently, Dipke, along with other CJP leaders, are lodged at an undisclosed location.
