NEW DELHI: INDIA bloc MPs are staging a march in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protests, which was heading towards the election commission headquarters from Parliament, was stopped by the police near Akashvani Bhavan. The leaders then sat down on the road and staged a protest. The march was led by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav also taking part. The police have been directed not to use excessive force while dealing with the protesters.
Rahul Gandhi had earlier said that it had been established that Gyanesh Kumar had amended Form 6 in an illegal and unilateral manner.
Tensions escalated into pushing and shoving between the police and Samajwadi Party workers after the latter moved in front of the barricades and staged a protest
A verbal altercation broke out between AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal and the police. Venugopal alleged that the police manhandled the MPs.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi climbed over the barricades. Police are also attempting to detain and remove the leaders and party workers from the protest site.
