Sabarimala women's entry: SC to pronounce verdict in October

NEW DELHI: The final verdict on women's entry in Sabarimala will likely be delivered by the Supreme Court in October. Chief Justice Suryakant gave this indication while considering the Bodh Gaya temple case. When the lawyer requested that the Bodh Gaya case be considered after the Sabarimala verdict, the Chief Justice hinted that the date would be in October. The Chief Justice also said that the Bodh Gaya case will be heard on October 6.

The review petition related to the verdict on the entry of women into Sabarimala was considered by a five-judge constitution bench. A nine-judge bench was hearing arguments on the questions prepared by this bench. The five-judge bench will again hear arguments on the review petitions and give its verdict based on the answers given by the nine-judge bench in the reference.

In March, the state government submitted a new affidavit to the Supreme Court regarding women's entry into Sabarimala. The 17-page affidavit contains answers to seven constitutional questions.

The government stated in the affidavit that if the court's scrutiny is necessary regarding the rituals in Sabarimala, it should be done only after detailed discussions with scholars and social reformers. The government explained that proper study and discussion are required in case of applying reforms to the existing rituals. The government stated that seeking the opinion of scholars and reformers as an impartial group will help in the easy implementation of justice.
