KANNUR: MLA T. K. Govindan, who won the Taliparamba Assembly seat with UDF support after quitting the CPM, has received a death threat over the phone. The threat was reportedly made on Friday evening while Govindan was attending a public function.
According to sources, an unidentified caller warned the MLA, saying, "Your journey will not continue for long. People in jail will take care of the job."
The caller also allegedly used abusive language against Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. Following the incident, Govindan filed a complaint with the Mayyil Police. Police have launched an investigation to identify the caller and determine the source of the threat.
Govindan had severed ties with the CPM and contested the Taliparamba constituency as an independent candidate backed by the UDF. His decision came after he opposed the CPM's move to field P. K. Shyamala, wife of CPM State Secretary M. V. Govindan, as the party's candidate in the constituency.
