THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court remanded Abel Augustine, a third-year MBBS student, accused of morphing pictures of female medical college students and posting them on social media. Abel has been remanded till July 7 in four cases. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mithun Gopi remanded the accused.
The police also found that Abel had morphed pictures of his own family members and circulated them on Telegram.
Abel collected photos of classmates from their Instagram accounts. They were then morphed and widely circulated with obscene comments, according to the remand report. Assistant Public Prosecutor Vinod M appeared in court for the government.
Although more than one complaint was received against the accused, a case was registered based on only one complaint, and the court released him on bail. On Wednesday night, a large student protest took place at the Medical College station, alleging that the bail was granted due to police negligence. Subsequently, a case was registered. It has been revealed that pictures of more than 20 female students of the Medical College were morphed and circulated. After the college union office bearers filed a complaint with Minister Ramesh Chennithala, the minister directed the Cyber Wing IG to investigate the incident.
