THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 15-year-old boy from Thiruvananthapuram became the latest victim of snakebite in Kerala. The boy was playing cricket when the reptile attacked. Abhinav (15), son of Jagadeesh from Vattapara, is now undergoing treatment.
Abhinav was playing cricket in a field near his house at 4.30 pm today when the ball went into a nearby stream. Abhinav, who went to pick the ball, was bitten by the snake lurking in the water. The boy was immediately taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital in an 108 ambulance. His health condition is reported to be satisfactory, and the latest report suggests that the snake was non-venomous.
On Sunday alone, 16 people sought the services of 108 after being bitten by snakes in the state. Reports of snakebites are coming from all districts of Kerala. Most victims were attacked by the reptiles while sleeping, cleaning the premises, or even while walking through the gardens at the resort.
Two elderly people were victims on Sunday, including 70-year-old Nafeesa in Kannur and 86-year-old Visalakshi in Idukki. Apart from this, incidents of snakebite have grown rapidly in the state in the last few days.
The deaths of eight-year-old Aljo from Thrissur and eight-year-old Dikshal from Chirayinkeezhu due to snakebite have put the locality into grief.
