WAYANAD: A baby elephant that was spotted wandering at Chekadi LP School in Wayanad, has died. The baby elephant seen wandering in the corridors of the school a few weeks ago, died of infection. The elephant was seen in the school on August 18. The visuals of it had gone viral on social media. The baby elephant was removed from there by the forest officials and released it back into the Vettathur forest area. However, the wild elephants were not ready to take the calf along with them.
The baby elephant then crossed the Kabanipuzha and reached the forest areas of Bairakuppa panchayat limits in Karnataka. The injured baby elephant was handed over to the Karnataka Forest Department by the locals from an area called Katagadda. The baby elephant was then shifted to the elephant care center located within the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve. Due to its injury and being a baby, it could not be given any solid food. The baby elephant was fed goat's milk for a few days.
