ALAPPUZHA: Cholera has claimed the life of one more in Kerala. The dead is P G Reghu (48) of Thalavady in Alappuzha. He died while undergoing treatment at Believers Medical College Hospital in Thiruvalla.

Reghu was a tipper lorry driver. It is being examined from where he contracted the disease. He had gone to Thrissur multiple times between April 29 and May 9. Therefore, it cannot be confirmed that he got the disease from Alappuzha.

Information has been collected from the family and those who were with the patient. They do not have any health issues. An investigation is also underway focusing on the institutions where the patient had visited. Reghu was diagnosed with issues on his liver and other internal organs in January.

Meantime, DMO Dr Jamuna Varghese informed that awareness campaigns and water quality testing have been conducted in the area. Restrictions have been imposed in the district on ice being added in juice. The health department has informed that the public should restrict drinking juice laced with ice or other drinks from shops.

Second cholera death
This is the second cholera death reported in Kerala this year. One person had died in the capital city last month. The dead was 63-year-old of Muttada. He was found to have travelled outside Kerala. Before that, cholera was reported in Thiruvananthapuram in July 2024. 11 including 10 inmates and staff of a private care home in Neyyattinkara were found to have infected with the disease.
