PATHANAMTHITTA: There are hints that the party has decided to expel former devaswom board president and CPM Pathanamthitta district committee member A Padmakumar, who was arrested in the Sabarimala gold theft case, from the party. Reports say that the party has issued a notice seeking an explanation in the case. The content of the notice is to provide an explanation for bringing disgrace to the party. It is reported that action will be taken after receiving an explanation.
Padmakumar was removed from the Pathanamthitta District Committee's WhatsApp group the other day. His removal was part of the party's stand that Padmakumar should not know about the discussions held in the group that includes the district secretary. There were allegations that the party had not taken action against Padmakumar despite being arrested and imprisoned in the Sabarimala gold theft case. He still continues to be a member of the district committee. The new move is following that. Padmakumar was recently released from jail after being granted bail in the case.
The Special Investigation Team arrested A Padmakumar on November 20, 2025 in the Sabarimala gold theft case. His first arrest was in the door frames case. While he was on remand in the case, the investigation team also registered his arrest in the Dwarapalaka idol case on December 4. Padmakumar, who had completed 90 days of remand in the door frames case after failing to file a chargesheet, was granted bail with conditions by the court on February 20. In the Dwarpalaka idol case, a statutory bail plea was filed after the 90-day remand period had expired.
