KOTTAYAM: The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Bindu, who died in the building collapse at Kottayam Medical College. Her son Navaneeth will be given a government job. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held online today. The government's new move comes amid continued criticism regarding Bindu's death. Ministers V N Vasavan and Veena George, who visited Bindu's house, had assured that the government would be with them.
Minister Bindu had informed the other day that Bindu's house will be renovated by the national service scheme which comes under the higher education department. The minister informed Bindu's husband Vishruthan and her mother Seethamma on the phone about it. The national service scheme officials will take the necessary steps as soon as possible. The minister had also made it clear that the construction will begin without delay.
Bindu died when an old building at the medical college hospital collapsed on July 3 at around 11 am. A part of the building's toilet collapsed. Three including a child, sustained injuries in the accident. The incident drew sharp criticism against the government. The accident happened when Bindu was bystanding her daughter Navami, who was admitted for a surgery.
