KOCHI: In a setback to Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL), the Kerala High Court has refused to grant an immediate interim stay on the investigation being conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation in the monthly payoff case. With this, the ED can proceed with the investigation until the hearing of the case is completed.

Additional Solicitor General Sundareswaran appeared for the ED. Senior Supreme Court advocate Sidharth Luthra appeared for CMRL. The division bench has informed that the hearing should not be prolonged much since the case is about two years old.

Following the court verdict, the ED may tighten the proceedings against Veena Vijayan, daughter of opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan. The court today considered the appeal filed by the CMRL on Saturday.
