KOCHI: Actor Siddique has resigned from the post of general secretary of star organization AMMA following allegations of sexual harassment by actress Revathi Sampath. Siddique announced that he is voluntarily resigning over the allegations. He sent an email to AMMA's president, Mohanlal informing him of his resignation. There are indications that there will be legal action against Siddique.
Revathi, who is also a model, raised the allegations in interviews given to television channels yesterday. In 2016, she was called to a room in Muscot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram, saying that he would give her a chance in a Tamil film in which his son is acting. He asked if she was ready for adjustment. When she resisted, she was beaten up and raped.
He threatened that no one will believe anyone if she revealed the incident and that she would lose chance in the film industry. In 2019, when the harassment information was revealed on Facebook, she faced a cyber attack.
Revathi said that after being invited to the movie preview of 'Sughamayirikkatte' at Nila Theatre, she was taken to the hotel room in Muscot hotel. 'He is a criminal. He destroyed my film dreams for telling this to many people. No one believed me and stood by me. Only my parents supported me', said Revathy.
Actor Siddique was selected for the post of AMMA's General Secretary a month and a half ago. The actor came as the successor of Idavela Babu. Siddique was elected at the Annual General Meeting held at the Gokulam Convention Center in Kochi. Siddique's autobiography titled 'Abhinayamariyathe' was released the other day in Kochi.
