Sexual assault attempt case: CPM local secretary removed from post

ALAPPUZHA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has removed SM Iqbal, its Punnamada local secretary, from his position after a party worker filed a police complaint accusing him of attempted sexual assault at the party office. The decision was taken during the District Secretariat meeting in the presence of CPM state secretary MV Govindan. D Saleekumar has been entrusted with the responsibility (in his place).

A party commission that investigated the complaint of the activist had reported that Iqbal was not guilty. Following this, the woman approached the police. Alappuzha North Police have registered a case against Iqbal.
