Thunderstorms and rain likely till May 10; alert issued for six districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state, reeling under intense heat, is set to get some relief as the India Meteorological Department has forecast rain in the coming days. The IMD has predicted isolated thunderstorms accompanied by rain and strong winds, with speeds reaching up to 50 kmph, from today until May 10.

A yellow alert has been issued for six districts today- Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.

Yellow alert:
May 7: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam
May 8: Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode
May 9: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam
May 10: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha

The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. Heavy rain refers to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

The IMD also said that in the next three hours, districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki may receive moderate rain with thunderstorms and winds up to 40 kmph in isolated places. Meanwhile, there is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala–Karnataka–Lakshadweep coasts today, the IMD added.
