Fitness buses to check physical fitness of students

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The campaign jointly organized by the Directorate Of Sports & Youth Affairs and the Sports Kerala Foundation to check the health and fitness of the students and create anti-drug awareness will begin today. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the program and flag off the fitness buses at 12 noon at the Central Stadium. Minister V Abdurahiman will be the chairman.

Ten thousand children in the age group of 12-17 in classes 6 to 12 will be the beneficiaries of the first phase of the project. The campaign is in selected schools under the Directorate Of Sports & Youth Affairs, General Education, Fisheries and SC/ST. As part of this, five buses equipped with facilities to check the physical fitness of students will tour all 14 districts. Minister V Sivankutty will inaugurate the fitness test in buses. Around 13 tests will be conducted to determine the strength, stamina and speed of the students. Each bus will screen 200 children per day. The tour will continue till March 9. Ministers Antony Raju, K Radhakrishnan, Saji Cherian, MB Rajesh, Mayor Arya Rajendran, District Panchayat President D. Suresh Kumar, Sports Council President U. Sharaf Ali and others will participate.
