KOCHI: The Russian Consulate intervened in the incident where a Russian woman tried to commit suicide due to harassment from her Malayalee male friend. The consulate said that it would help to bring the woman back to Russia from Kozhikode. The consulate officials spoke to the woman's mother in this regard. As the case is in the court, it has been decided to return the woman home as per the permission of the court.

The police had earlier arrested Akhil (28), a resident of Kalangali in connection with the case. 300 grams of ganja was also seized from him. The complaint against Akhil is that he physically and mentally abused a Russian woman whom he met through Instagram. The woman has stated that she was brutally assaulted by Akhil. The woman stated that she was beaten with a rod and her passport was torn. According to the statement, the accused also destroyed her iPhone. The woman's confidential statement will be recorded before the magistrate.

The woman was admitted to the medical college hospital last day. A case was not filed because the police could not record the statement of the woman who spoke only Russian. The police said that the information about the assault was revealed yesterday when they recorded her statement with the help of a translator. The woman said that the accused forcibly raped her and beat her constantly. They met through Instagram six months ago and had visited Qatar and Nepal together. They arrived in India a month ago.
