Man attempts suicide after hacking mother-in-law to death, wife also sustains serious injuries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man hacked his mother-in-law to death at Aruvikkara in Nedumangad. She has been identified as Thahira (67) of Azhikode in Nedumangad. Ali Akbar, the accused is an employee of SAT in Thiruvananthapuram. He also injured his wife, Mumtaz.

Ali Akbar, who attempted suicide by setting him ablaze, is in a serious condition. Reports said that his wife is also in a serious condition. Though the couple’s son was at home at the time of the incident, he had escaped unhurt. Mumtaz is a high school teacher.

Police said the murder was committed Thursday early morning at 4 am. Initial reports said family issues led him to commit the murder. A case between Ali Akbar and his wife is in the family court for 10 years. Ali Akbar lived on the first floor of the house and Mumtaz along with her mother Thahira are staying on the ground floor. Ali Akbar will retire from service tomorrow and information is that he had huge financial liability. The Aruvikara police have registered a case in the incident.
