Police seize gold worth Rs 36 lakh from passenger who came out of airport after Customs inspection

NEDUMBASSERY: The police seized gold worth Rs 36.5 lakh from a passenger who came out of the airport after completing Immigration and Customs inspection. The person who came to receive him was also arrested.

Nedumbassery police arrested Irinjalakuda native Sooraj (28), who arrived from Dubai and Ponnani native Faisal Rahman. 634 grams of gold concealed by the passenger in his rectum in capsule form was seized. He had hidden the gold in four capsules.

Following the instructions of Rural District Police Chief Vivek Kumar, a special police team has been deputed for surveillance in and around the airport. The accused were detained at the aid post for examination. The gold was found during the subsequent investigation.

The police had seized 20 sovereigns worth of gold illegally smuggled from abroad near the airport parking area on last 30th. Ajmal Anas, a resident of Palluruthy, was arrested by the police in connection with the incident. Inspector Soni Mathai, Sub-Inspector S Sivaprasad, ASI Shiju, Baiju Kurian and SCPO Bindu are part of the investigation team.
