KOTTAYAM: A police officer, who met with an accident during night patrolling has died. He is sub-inspector Joby George (52) of Ramapuram Station in Kottayam. He is a native of Ponkunnam Chirakadavu. The accident happened while he was trying to nab a gambling gang.
The incident happened around 11 pm last night. Joby George and CPO Vineeth Raju, who was on driver duty, were on night patrol. They had received information that migrant workers were playing cards and creating a ruckus in the building Anathara near Ramapuram private bus stand.
Joby George and Vineeth reached there following the information. The gamblers were on the second floor. They did not open the door even after knocking. Later, Joby George tried to kick the door open and fell back due to the pressure of kicking the door.
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital nearby but died early Sunday morning. The body is kept in Kottayam Medical College. Further steps will be taken after the post-mortem.
