Impersonation: Union election results of other colleges will also be checked

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the impersonation incident at Kattakkada Christian College, the University of Kerala has decided to check the union election results of all the colleges. Vice Chancellor Dr Mohanan Kunnummal has received complaints about impersonation in many other colleges.

The VC directed the principals to produce complete records of elections in all colleges. The Vice-Chancellor had frozen the Kerala University union elections after it was found that SFI Kattakkada Area Secretary A Visakh was named the UUC instead of Anagha, who won as University Union Councilor (UUC) in the Kattakkada Christian College Union elections. The syndicate which will meet on Saturday will discuss impersonation. The principal-in-charge Dr. GJ Shaiju will be removed from office. He has submitted a letter to the registrar admitting the offence. The Private College Teachers Association has dismissed the district office bearer GJ Shaiju from organizational duties. However, since the time to withdraw the papers has passed, he will contest the elections to the Senate. Meanwhile, a complaint has been received that A Visakh, a first-year B.Sc student of Kattakkada College, was a graduate student in another college and got admission here without cancelling his registration.

According to principal Shaiju, Visakh was named as UUC after the elected representative announced her intention to resign. The university assessed that it was a serious mistake to include Visakh who did not file to contest the election. 24-year-old Visakh cannot contest elections. Although the Returning Officer was pressurised to make Visakh contest the elections, he did not relent. The Returning Officer had certified and given the list of candidates who won elections to the Principal. Visakh's name was included by correcting this. Visakh's plan was to contest the university union election and become the chairman.
