KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee questioned the death toll officially released by the Railways in the Odisha train disaster. Mamata Banerjee said that information about 182 people from Bengal who were on the train is yet to be received. Of the dead, 62 have been identified as natives of Bengal. Their dead bodies have been brought to Bengal. However, no information about 182 people has been received yet, said Mamata.

More than a thousand people are injured and are being treated in hospital. Many are in critical condition. It is not even clear what will happen to them tomorrow. Why the death toll shown is lower than the original number? Mamata Banerjee also accused the Railways of spreading false information. A most tragic accident occurred. Mamata accused the Center of not even apologizing for their mistake.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Railway Board has recommended a CBI probe into the Odisha train disaster. Ashwini Vaishnaw himself informed that there will be a CBI investigation amid the opposition clamoring for the resignation of the Union Railway Minister in the wake of the accident. The Ministry of Railways had earlier hinted that apart from the Railways' internal inquiry into the train accident, other agencies would be considered as well.
